TESCO IRELAND PARTNERS WITH KEOHANE SEAFOODS

Tesco Ireland partners with Keohane Seafoods in multi-million-euro investment
Tesco Ireland and Cork-based seafood company Keohane Seafoods, have announced a new supply deal partnership worth more than €21 million. The ambitious two-year plan will see Tesco partner with the family run seafood company to significantly expand the supermarket’s range of fish products.
With 170 stores and popular grocery home shopping network across Ireland, Tesco currently spends €14 million annually with the West Cork seafood producer. The new deal will see Tesco effectively doubling its spend over the next two years, adding more than 20 new Tesco brand product lines, which will bring the total range to over 50 products.
Keohane Seafoods already supply 30 fish products into Tesco Ireland, including customer favourites such as Salmon Fillets with Garlic & Herb and Cod Fillet with lemon and herb marinade. Last year its Finest Wild Atlantic Scallops with Garlic & Fennel Butter received a Blas na hEireann award.
Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Simon Coveney, T.D., has welcomed the announcement: “I’m delighted to see Tesco Ireland agreeing this multi-million-euro partnership with Keohane Seafoods. Tesco Ireland’s commitment to supporting great Irish producers, like Keohane’s, is important for maintaining and securing future jobs, particularly in rural and coastal areas.”
Commenting on the new investment, Joe Manning, Commercial Director, Tesco Ireland said: “As the single leading retail purchaser of Irish food and drink in the world, with purchases totalling €1.6 billion a year, we support more than 500 local suppliers across Ireland, including Cork’s own Keohane Seafoods. With this partnership, Tesco customers can look forward to enjoying this expanded range of affordable, high-quality seafood products, from this award-winning Irish seafood producer.”
Colman Keohane, Managing Director Keohane Seafoods, also welcomed the partnership extension. “We are delighted to work with Tesco Ireland on bringing these highly innovative products to their many customers across Ireland. As a company, we have made a significant investment in our new state of the art factory. We are really excited that in addition to our core range of seafood products, we now have a dedicated facility that can provide a quality range of “Ready to Eat” seafood products to Irish consumers.”
With 170 stores nationwide, Tesco employs over 13,000 people in cities and towns around Ireland, supporting almost 45,000 jobs directly and indirectly.
