TUNADRONE WINS THE TUNA AWARDS 2023

Tunadrone wins the Tuna Awards 2023 in the category Revolution 4.0. The Tunadrone project, designed and manufactured by Marine Instruments, has won the Tuna Awards 2023 in the Revolution 4.0 category. This award, promoted by Anfaco-Cecopesca, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, was part of the XI Anfaco World Tuna Conference. The aim of this worldwide recognition is to highlight the efforts of the tuna sector in the search for operational excellence and sustainability.

Characteristics of the Tunadrone

The Tunadrone is a solar-powered drone designed from the outset for visual exploration of the marine environment, capable of coping with the atmospheric and meteorological complexity of the oceans. Its main features include a maximum speed of up to 45 knots, a radio-link coverage of up to 18 nautical miles and an HD camera with digital zoom capable of transmitting video in real time and taking 4K photographs. It can be launched by hand or by catapult and landed by net, in either case with the advantage of doing so while the boat is moving. The solar panels give it a zero carbon footprint and allow it to reach an autonomy of up to 10 hours in optimal sunlight conditions.

Free-swimming tuna fishing device

The Tunadrone is an unmanned vehicle designed for free school tuna fishing. The aim of the device is to support tuna vessels in the search and location of birds or schools of tuna in the free school mode. In addition, the Tunadrone saves fuel significantly, as the tuna vessel does not have to travel to a specific area and can analyse several areas with real-time images before moving the boat.

International recognition

The presentation of the Tuna Awards was held in the Salón Regio of A Sede RC Celta and the event was attended by executives from national and international tuna companies, as well as the director general of fisheries management, Ignacio Gandarias and the conselleiro do Mar, Alfonso Villares. The other winner of the event was Satlink in the Blue Transition category.

With this award, Marine Instruments adds another step in its history as an innovative company that, through the development of its own pioneering and revolutionary technologies, can transform traditional sectors such as fisheries.
