VIETNAM SEAFOOD EXPORT TURNOVER PROSPERED IN THE FIRST SIX MONTHS

Vietnam Seafood export turnover prospered in the first six months of the year 2021 amid Covid situation

In the first six months of the year, although the Covid-19 pandemic caused many difficulties in production and export, the value of seafood export turnover was estimated at 4 billion USD, up 13.6% over the same period in 2020 and reaching 47.1% of the plan. This is a positive result in the overall picture of the seafood industry in the first half of 2021.
The weather situation is relatively favorable for aquaculture and fishing during first six months of the year in 2021 in Vietnam as per Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Fisheries, Vietnam. Covid-19 pandemic however continued to develop complicatedly, affecting life, economy and society, disrupting global supply chains and directly affecting production, export, import and consumption of seafood products. The situation of drought and saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta was complicated, affecting aquaculture; The European Commission continues to keep the “yellow card” warning for Vietnam’s exploited seafood.
Inspite of challenges, Seafood industry in Vietnam has achieved encouraging results in the first six months of 2021. It was targeted that by the end of June 2021, the total fishery production should reach 4.1 million tons, up 3% over the same period in 2020, of which the fishing output should achieve nearly 2 million tons (up 1%), aquaculture output set to reach to 2.1 million tons (up 4%). Compared with the target of the first six months of 2021, the total production reached 104.3%, of which the fishing production reached 106.8 % & farming production reached 102.3 %. When compared with the target of the whole year 2021, the total fishery output reached 47.6%; in which the exploitation output reached 51.9%, the aquaculture production reached 44.2%.
