AI TRANSFORMING ICELAND’S BLUE ECONOMY

AI transforming Iceland’s blue economy. The Iceland Ocean Cluster recently hosted a roundtable meeting bringing together key stakeholders from industry, academia, and government to discuss the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the blue economy. The session focused on recent developments in AI-driven innovation, exploring how data, automation, and machine learning can enhance sustainability, efficiency, and value creation across the marine sector.

Participants shared insights on ongoing projects and future opportunities, emphasising the importance of collaboration between technology developers, researchers, and ocean-focused companies. The event underscored the Ocean Cluster’s commitment to fostering dialogue and innovation at the intersection of AI and ocean industries, helping position Iceland at the forefront of digital transformation in the maritime space.

This week’s gathering brought together leaders from across Iceland’s blue economy and AI experts to explore the critical trends defining the future of ocean industries. The programme featured insights on global blue AI applications presented by Axel Olafsson, the Cluster’s AI project intern, alongside inspiring success stories from Icelandic companies already leading the change.

Among these pioneers were GreenFish, Hefring Marine, LearnCove, and Oceans of Data, whose innovative use of AI is transforming how we create and capture value in the blue economy. Their work demonstrates that artificial intelligence is not only shaping the present but also unlocking new possibilities for sustainable growth in the ocean sector. The Iceland Ocean Cluster looks forward to seeing even more ground-breaking AI-driven success stories emerge in the years ahead.
