AMERICAN SEAFOODS SUPPORTS SCHEME TO PROMOTE OPPORTUNITIES AT SEA

AMERICAN SEAFOODS SUPPORTS SCHEME

American Seafoods supports scheme to promote opportunities at sea. American Seafoods continues to remain focused on giving back to the communities in which they operate by supporting the Maritimes Core Plus programme. This is the Washington high school trades programme working to get young people’s attention and interest in opportunities at sea

They are now in a multi-year effort to create a Maritime Curriculum that will give kids in schools with the program a path into both on vessels and shipyard employment. Some may come straight out of high school and go to work while others may head to community college for further training in welding, diesel mechanics, etc.

American Seafoods has donated 2 decommissioned diesel generators that will be used by two schools to teach generations of kids to come, some retired survival suits and life rafts that will be used for training. Financial support was also provided to help fund some students and teachers to be able to attend the Seattle Boat Show in Feb 2022.

Alan Davis, Director of Safety and Compliance at American Seafoods serves as a Grant Reviewer for this programme with approximately 11 schools submitting applications this year to help strengthen programs:

“I am honoured to be involved with a programme that helps students prepare for career paths that literally span the globe.  A career at sea can be both an adventure and rewarding as this programme highlights”, said Allan. He will also be going to Neah Bay, WA this year and talking to students about fishing careers. If you would like to hear more from a Core Plus graduate about his success in maritime, watch this video!

Beyond sustainable fisheries, American Seafoods extends social responsibility extends to crews on land and at sea, to customers around the world, and to the communities in which we work and play.
