Global precision instruments and inspection solutions leader Mettler Toledo will showcase its latest advances in product inspection at the PPMA Show 2026, held 22–24 September at Birmingham’s NEC.

Centred around the theme Inspect. Protect. Comply., the company will demonstrate how connected, data-driven technologies help manufacturers tighten line control, mitigate risk, and stay fully prepared for audits and regulatory checks.

Visitors to Booth D84 will see live demonstrations of integrated checkweighing, metal detection, X-ray inspection and data management systems – including two platforms making their UK debut – designed to deliver consistent quality control across even the most demanding production environments.

UK Premiere for M50 R‑Series Metal Detection

Headlining the stand is the first public showing in the UK of the M50 R‑Series AdvancedLine metal detection platform, engineered for food manufacturers processing unpackaged, packaged, wet, dry or bulk goods. The system balances ultra‑high detection sensitivity with enhanced productivity, traceability and compliance readiness.

At its heart is an intuitive 10.1‑inch capacitive touchscreen that remains fully responsive even when operators are wearing gloves or the screen is damp. The new INFINITY Electronic Test System (ETS) automates routine verification procedures, cutting manual tasks and boosting throughput, while RFID‑enabled user access supports secure individual logins and instant display of instructions in the operator’s preferred language.

Built around three core pillars – Performance, Productivity, Protection – the M50 R‑Series delivers the most sensitive, future‑ready metal detection from Mettler Toledo to date, all while retaining ease of use as a central design principle. It identifies the smallest metal contaminants, minimises false rejects and safeguards not just product safety, but also line efficiency and brand integrity.

X12 X‑Ray: Precision Inspection for Small‑to‑Medium Products

X12 X-ray System

X12 X-ray System

Also on show will be the X12 X‑ray inspection system, part of the X2 Series range, tailored for manufacturers facing increasingly complex product and packaging requirements. This single‑lane solution features a high‑sensitivity HiGain detector that delivers exceptional contaminant detection at a highly competitive price point.

As well as identifying a broad spectrum of foreign bodies – including metal, glass, mineral stone, calcified bone and high‑density plastics – the X12 carries out simultaneous quality checks, flagging missing, damaged or incomplete items before they leave the line. Mettler Toledo specialists will also outline how emerging artificial intelligence capabilities are being integrated into X‑ray systems to further enhance integrity verification.

By combining safety and quality assurance in one unit, the X12 lets manufacturers inspect with confidence, preserve brand reputation and maintain uninterrupted production flow.

C23 Checkweigher: Accurate Weighing for Compliance and Control

Reliable in‑line weighing takes centre stage with the C23 PlusLine Checkweigher, purpose‑built for heavy‑load applications up to 80 kg. The robust unit identifies under‑ and over‑filled packs, cuts product giveaway and supports full alignment with weights‑and‑measures regulations.

Ideal for larger cartons, cases and heavy products, the C23 integrates seamlessly into existing lines and can also perform end‑of‑line completeness checks to confirm every consignment meets specification. Real‑time visibility of weight trends allows production teams to adjust fill levels quickly, reduce waste and maintain consistent output.

ProdX™: Connected Data for Simplified Compliance

Completing the integrated solution set is ProdX™, Mettler Toledo’s centralised product inspection data management software. The platform links all inspection devices across a line or facility to capture, store and analyse information automatically, eliminating reliance on manual record‑keeping.

By streamlining reporting, traceability and audit preparation, ProdX™ delivers clear evidence of due diligence, supports faster root‑cause analysis and unlocks actionable insights that drive continuous improvement in performance and profitability.

Industry Perspective

“PPMA Show is an important opportunity for UK manufacturers to see how product inspection technologies can support quality, productivity and compliance in a practical production setting,” said Mike Pipe, Head of Product Inspection UK, Mettler Toledo. “Our Inspect. Protect. Comply. theme reflects the pressures manufacturers face every day: inspecting products accurately, protecting consumers and brand reputation, and maintaining clear evidence for audits and compliance. By demonstrating checkweighing, metal detection, x-ray inspection and connected data management together, we can show how a more joined-up approach to product inspection helps manufacturers improve line control, reduce risk and protect profitability.”

Visitors can book one‑to‑one discussions and view live demonstrations at Booth D84 throughout the show.
