Aquaculture Supplier Rebrands and Opens New Depot in Tromsø

Svolvær-based Proff Kulde AS, a supplier of refrigerant solutions to the aquaculture and fisheries industries, is rebranding to “Tempia” and is expanding its footprint in Northern Norway by establishing a new facility in Tromsø.

Following many years of operating under the Proff Kulde-name, the company will now rebrand to Tempia, a change reflects that the company will target further international growth going forward, which requires a company name that works well in global markets.

The new sales and service unit in Tromsø, is aimed at servicing aquaculture, fisheries and land-based industry will provide new employment opportunities and will increase the overall Tempia workforce.

The unit will have nine employees from the beginning and consist of numerous highly experienced technicians that will conduct installation and maintenance work on refrigeration and heating solutions.

The new Tromsø-based unit will be headed up by Truls Hansen, who has more than 30 years’ industry experience.

“We want to provide current and new customers in North-Norway with an even better and faster service by offering greater proximity and higher capacity,” says Mathias Ingebrigtsen, managing director of Tempia.

Growth strategy

Tempia experiences growing demand for its cooling and heating solutions that are based on natural refrigerants such as CO2 and ammonia. The latter also drives the company’s product development efforts.

The new set-up in Tromsø is part of a growth strategy that during the past year has resulted in a workforce expansion of 40 percent at the company’s headquarter in Svolvær, a substantial increase in production capacity, plus a new R&D testing facility.

Tempia also recently acquired a welding company, Paulsen Sveiseservice which is located in Bø in Vesterålen, North Norway.

Cooling solutions using natural refrigerants

Tempia’s supplies pump systems for cooling and heating of freshwater and seawater, and industrial ice machines and their proprietary products are based on natural refrigerants such as CO2 and ammonia. The product range consist of RSW-solutions (refrigerated seawater), cooling and freezing facilities for fisheries, aquaculture and land-based industry.

Seafood investor Bluefront Equity is Tempia’s largest shareholder. The company’s fund, Bluefront Capital I, primarily invests in small and medium sized supplier companies that contribute towards making the seafood value chain more sustainable, including increased traceability, better fish health and welfare, enhanced quality of the end-product, and improved hygiene.
