Seafish Onshore Training Courses

In today’s evolving seafood sector, having a skilled and competent workforce is a key factor for business success. Seafish is dedicated to supporting the seafood industry with its suite of onshore training courses.

From essential food safety to specialist fish quality assessment skills, Seafish, the public body that supports the UK seafood industry, has a training programme to help to develop processors, fishmongers, and fish friers.

Seafish delivers two complementary tracks:

Compliance Courses

Many of these training programmes result in successful candidates receiving a nationally recognised qualification, which can help businesses to fulfil some of their legal obligations and enhance brand trust:

• Food Hygiene
• Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP)
• Health & Safety
• Bivalve Shellfish Safety
• Food Authenticity & Integrity Verification
• Food Allergens Management & Awareness.

Skills-Focused Courses

Designed to develop craft and technical expertise, these industry-centred courses include:

• Fishmongering
• Fish Frying
• Fish Quality Assessment
• Fish Smoking.

Most courses are framed by real-world seafood scenarios, even many of the ‘generic’ compliance programmes are tailored to seafood settings, ensuring both relevance and depth.

Learners can learn in formats that fit their lives:

• Remote training courses delivered live via Zoom or Microsoft Teams, which reduce travel time and cost
• Self-paced e-learning, followed by invigilated online exams to obtain industry-recognised certification, allowing candidates to study at a place and time convenient to their needs.

Why Training Matters

By investing in onshore training, seafood businesses can:

• Raise food safety and workplace standards
• Boost staff competence and confidence
• Create better staff retention levels
• Produce higher productivity rates.

Seafish’s comprehensive onshore training delivers more than qualifications, it builds capability, drives compliance and contributes to future-proofing the UK seafood industry.

Whether you’re pursuing food hygiene or mastering the principles of fish smoking, Seafish offers the tools and the expertise to empower your business.
