CAROLE BOUQUET AND PURE OCEAN FOUNDATION, INVITE COMPANIES AND CELEBRITIES TO SUPPORT THE PANTHER SCIENTIFIC PROJECT

CAROLE BOUQUET AND PURE OCEAN FOUNDATION

Carole Bouquet and Pure Ocean Foundation, invite companies and celebrities to support the Panther scientific project, an experimental seabed restoration project off the island of Pantelleria. On Pantelleria, a Mediterranean island between Tunisia and Sicily, fishing yields are falling year after year. The cause: the growing negative impact of human activity on coastal habitats. Posidonia are being uprooted, and the rocky and sandy seabed is being scraped and destructured, depriving marine life of support. In the long term, this threatens the food security of populations.

A SEABED RESTORATION PROJECT TO BRING BACK MARINE LIFE

The Panther project, winner of the Pure Ocean endowment fund’s 2023 call for projects and led by researchers at the Università Polytechnica della Marche, aims to experiment with community-based restoration of degraded habitats to establish a marine protected area.

Scientists, together with local fishermen, divers and residents, will replant Posidonia, sponges and gorgonians in a 200m2 area, to recreate the environment needed for the return of marine life. Scientific monitoring will be carried out using 3D photogrammetry, a cutting-edge imaging technique.

A FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN IN SUPPORT OF THE PANTHER PROJECT

Thanks to Carole Bouquet’s involvement, Pure Ocean hopes to raise funds to finance the project in Pantelleria. From October 1 to December 31, 2023, for every donation of €1,000 to Pure Ocean, Carole Bouquet will offer a unique bottle of her prestigious Sangue d’Oro wine as a thank-you for the donor’s commitment (while stocks last).

THE PANTHER PROJECT IN BRIEF

This concrete, innovative project brings together scientists, fishermen, local divers and island residents to replant Posidonia, sponges and gorgonians in a 200m2 area, with a view to establishing a marine protected area. This pilot initiative for local adaptation to climate change could serve as a model for the technical and economic transition of the islands towards sustainable fishing and non-extractive activities such as eco-tourism

For every donation of 1,000 euros to Pure Ocean between October 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023, Carole Bouquet will offer a unique bottle of her prestigious Sangue d’Oro wine (while stocks last) as a thank-you for the donor’s commitment.

ABOUT SANGUE D’ORO

Our vineyard is made up of a multitude of terroirs and microclimates, and by taking the best, we produce only 5000 bottles a year of the Sangue d’Oro cuvée, nothing more. This exceptional cuvée comes from terroirs whose yields are naturally lower due to their age and exposure. The ancestral grape variety, Muscat d’Alexandrie or Zibbido, produces a sweet white wine from the passerillage, or passito, of the grapes. Sangue d’Oro is harvested and made according to the historical and traditional methods of the DOC Passito de Pantelleria appellation, whose vineyards are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

ABOUT PURE OCEAN

Pure Ocean is an international endowment fund based in Marseille and Lorient. Its main mission is to mobilise civil society to support ambitious and innovative scientific projects for the protection of biodiversity and fragile marine ecosystems. Through an international call for projects, followed by an analysis by the five eminent researchers who make up the scientific committee, Pure Ocean selects projects with a strong innovative dimension, whether technological, ecological or social. Pure Ocean also raises public awareness of the situation of endangered ecosystems, highlighting solutions to protect them through conferences, the promotion of races and sporting challenges, and the provision of “La Goutte Bleue” waste collection kits. www.pure-ocean.org
