EEFPO champions industry from sea to plate

Eastern England Fish Producer’s Organisation is championing the industry from sea to plate with the launch of a new video at the Whitby Fish and Ships Festival on 18 – 19th May.

With members operating a diverse range of fishing vessels in the waters off the East Coast as well as in more distant waters in the Northern North Sea and beyond, EEFPO is seeking to attract new blood into an increasingly vibrant fishing and seafood sector.

Arnold Locker EEFPO co-chairman said: “Whitefish stocks in the northern North Sea are levels I have not seen for decades.  This really is a great time for new talent to be coming into the industry that can have pride in what has been achieved to recover stocks over the last 2 decades.”

Dale Rodmell, EEFPO chief executive said: “we have an industry embedded in the East Coast communities that provides a vital source of sustainable protein to the nation.

“Sometimes fishing is given a bad press which can discourage interest in the industry, but actually we should be celebrating a proud industry that at its heart works to harvest sustainable protein from a self-renewing natural resource.

“Thanks to an improved stewardship of the seas, stocks in the North Sea are by and large becoming steadily more bountiful which makes for a profitable and increasingly attractive sector to come and work in, whether at sea fishing or in numerous other supply chain or other supporting and managerial roles that underpin a flourishing sector.”

The video that is also supported by the National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisations will be launching in the Fish Craft Marquee alongside a range of other exhibits and seafood cooking demonstrations to celebrate the fruits of our diverse and abundant seas, and the people that put them on our plates.
