EXCELLENT BLUE WHITING SEASON FOR NORWEGIAN FLEET
Excellent blue whiting season for Norwegian fleet
Norwegian pelagic management organisation Norges Sildesalgslag has reported an excellent blue whiting season so far.
47,150 tonnes of blue whiting have been reported this week, almost as much as last week, mostly from Norwegian vessels fishing in the EU zone.
Of the Norwegian quota of 378,766 tonnes, 293,000 have now been fished and the fleet is about to hit a billion kroner in turnover so far this season on blue whiting.
The previous record turnover was in 2020, when Norwegian vessels delivered 353,000 tonnes of blue whiting with a value of NOK 1.13 billion.
There has been good fishing this week, with a lot of good weather.
“We have 6 vessels on the field now, with more on the way. So far into the season, there are vessels that have fished their entire quota, but as mentioned, there are almost 85,000 left in total,” says sales manager Knut Halvor Møgster
Three catches of horse mackerel have also been caught totalling 115 tonnes. Most of it was taken outside Misund, while the rest, around 20 tonnes, was taken south at Bømlo
A mackerel catch of 24 tonnes has been reported from the area just outside the Sognefjord.
