FIVE NEW SHRIMP FARMS

Five new shrimp farms join SSP. Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) has announced that 5 new shrimp farms are joining the programme. After finalizing the verification process for SSP criterions through ICONTEC (The Colombian Institute of Technical Standards and Certification), Promarisco from Grupo Nueva Pescanova with farms Marfrisco and Quiñónez; and Grupo Lanec, with farms Corporación Lanec, Bellitec and Greentrailcorp, have received SSP qualification.

“We are happy to welcome these 5 new farms that have shown sharing SSP goal of producing premium quality shrimp that meets the highest social and environmental standards, ensuring a healthy, nutritious and pure product for consumers,” said Pamela Nath, Director of SSP. “Through SSP we are demonstrating that it is possible to work collaboratively to ensure a sustainable future for aquaculture.”

All SSP farms are Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certified, have a policy of zero use of antibiotics, generate a neutral impact on the environment and offer complete traceability of how the shrimp is produced.

“We are pleased to be part of the SSP, which is undoubtedly a reference for the global shrimp industry, demonstrating how aquaculture can be done in a responsible manner, complying with high standards and without the use of antibiotics, to offer consumers not only a premium quality shrimp but also a healthy product” shared Carlos Sánchez, Vannamei Aquaculture Director, Grupo Nueva Pescanova.

“We have worked as a team for several decades in this industry, and at Grupo Lanec we have focused on building our business for the future,” said Alex Olsen, CEO, Grupo Lanec. “The success and sustainability of the shrimp industry will only be possible if we are committed to implementing the best aquaculture practices, encouraging other actors to join this commitment. That’s why we are proud to be part of SSP. ”

Sebastián Ochoa, Icontec’s Manager in Ecuador, shared:

“As partners in the development of protocols and the consolidation of the processes for the qualification of shrimp farms under SSP criterions, we are pleased to certify that 5 new farms will join this initiative demonstrating not only that they are meeting high quality standards, but also are aligned with the global challenges of climate change and sustainability.”
