Glenmar Shellfish acquires Chef’s Choice Fish Co. The acquisition marks Glenmar expansion into the West of Ireland.

Glenmar Shellfish, a subsidiary of West Cork-based Lisavaird Food Group, has acquired Chef’s Choice Fish Company, trading as Mary’s Fish, in Ballybrit, Galway for an undisclosed amount.
The acquisition marks Glenmar Shellfish’s first expansion into the west of Ireland, with the company saying it will further strengthen its presence nationwide. Glenmar currently operates in Dublin, Wexford, Midleton, West Cork and now Galway.
The seafood company has been operating for 40 years and employs 48 people across its operations in Ireland, the UK and Italy. It is also supplied by over 150 fishing vessels.
Mary’s Fish, a family-run business that was established 10 years ago, will now operate under the Glenmar brand.
All 15 staff members will remain employed, with Glenmar saying it will ensure for a “smooth transition”.
Mary Kilcommins, the founder of Mary’s Fish, will remain with the business in a managerial role.

Lisavaird Co-Op, the parent company of Glenmar, said it was pleased to support the expansion as it broadens the Lisavaird Food Group’s portfolio within the Irish food industry.
The group recorded a turnover of €213 million in 2023, with Glenmar contributing €57 million to this figure.
