HERCULES HYDRAULICS SYSTEM FOR NEW 20.4 METRE TRAWLER

HERCULES HYDRAULICS SYSTEM FOR NEW

Hercules Hydraulics system for new 20.4 metre trawler. A complete hydraulic and electrical control system has been designed, supplied and installed by Hercules Hydraulics on the first new 20.4 metre Netter to be built in the UK for almost 20 years.

“Working with Parkol Marine Engineering on the new vessel, Amanda of Ladram, gave us the opportunity to continue our working relationship with the company and a great opportunity to design a modern, efficient and user-focussed system for the vessel due to enhance the modern fleet operated by Waterdance,” said Ryan Langley, Managing Director at Hercules Hydraulics.

The Trawler was ordered just a few days before the pandemic struck in March 2020 but by introducing new shift patterns to ensure the number of people working at any one time, were within the guidelines, the build was able to stay on schedule and delivery was made on time.

Deck machinery on the vessel is driven by a load-sensing hydraulic system from two 37kW, 3-phase, fully integrated electric motors supplied by Hercules Hydraulics. Full power can be supplied from just one pump set so the crew can be confident that a spare is on hand if required.

The hydraulic ring-main has also allowed for the addition of a bow thruster for manoeuvrability, adjustable tension net hauler and cargo winches to further boost Amanda of Ladram’s versatility and the wheelhouse control system allows the skipper to remotely control the whole hydraulic system including isolation, operation and monitoring of the machinery.

Following the installation at Parkol Marine, Whitby, Hercules Hydraulics engineers attended the yard for hydraulic and electrical commissioning.

“This project faced the challenges of the working patterns and parts supply issues as a result of the pandemic and Brexit but we are delighted to have helped keep the build on schedule and to see the successful launch of Amanda of Ladram now part of the Waterdance fleet berthed in Newlyn. We wish John Walsh and his crew the best of luck,” continued Ryan Langley.
