ICELANDIC CATCHES DOWN IN JANUARY

Icelandic catches down in January. The total catch of Icelandic vessels in January 2019 was over 46.6 thousand tonnes which is a 57% decrease from January 2018. Demersal catch was just over 43 thousand tonnes, a decrease of 17% compared with January 2018. Cod catch increased by 5% and haddock and saithe by over 60%. Pelagic catch was only 1.3 thousand tonnes which is a decrease of 98% compared with January 2018.
In the 12 month period from February 2018 to January 2019 the total catch has decreased by 6% compared with the same period one year earlier. The value index in January is 10.8% lower than in January 2018.
