ICELANDIC OCTOBER FISH CATCH DROPS
Icelandic October fish catch drops. The Icelandic fish catch in October 2024 was approximately 96 thousand tonnes, which is a 22% decrease compared with October 2023.
Demersal catch was just over 40 thousand tonnes, of which cod accounted for 22 thousand tons. Pelagic fish catch was 54 thousand tonnes, a 34% reduction compared with October last year. The pelagic catch consisted of herring, 20 thousand tonnes, and blue whiting, 34 thousand tonnes.
Fish catch in the twelve-month period from November 2023 to October 2024 was 973 thousand tons, which is a 29% decrease compared with the same period a year ago. The cause of this decline is the drop in capelin catch.
