NORWEGIAN BLUE WHITING FISHERY PICKS UP

NORWEGIAN BLUE WHITING FISHERY

Norwegian blue whiting fishery picks up. The blue whiting fishery for Norwegian vessels has finally picked up, according to an article on the Norges Sildesalgslag website.

The article states: “The weather gods finally played on the fleet’s team and gave them longer periods of working conditions which resulted in a better fishery. 40.200 MT were registered this week, a much higher volume than the previous weeks combined.

“17 vessels caught a total of 32.300 MT in international waters, and the remaining 7.900 MT was caught by five different vessels both west and north of the Porcupine Bank in EU waters.

“The vessels report of decent availability in some areas, the problem is that multiple vessels might trawl on the same “spot” of fish. In addition to a large Norwegian fleet, there’s also Russian, Faroe and Icelandic vessels in the area.

“We’re expecting more vessels to come through and hoping that the weather gives us decent working conditions.

“106 MT of horse mackerel was caught along the west coast of Norway, 100 of these were caught during the night hours of Monday February 24th.

“The catches were landed in Florø and Skudnes and the size ranges from 370-450 gram.” NORWEGIAN BLUE WHITING FISHERY
