RUSSIA INCREASES FISH EXPORTS TO CHINA

Russia increases fish exports to China. Russia is increasing its exports of fish products, and China remains its main buyer. In January-March 2023, deliveries to this country increased by 32.9% in volume, however, in monetary terms, exports do not grow so quickly, and for some positions the dynamics is completely negative.

According to the All-Russian Association of Fisheries Industry (VARPE), the volume of supplies of Russian-made fish products to China in the first quarter of 2023 increased by 32.9% in physical terms. However, in monetary terms, supplies increased by only 28.4%, which is associated with uneven price changes in the industry.

Thus, the VARPE noted that the supply of fillet, minced meat and other fish meat increased by 11.5%, while the cost not only did not increase, but also decreased by 15.7%. Shipments of crustaceans to China have almost doubled, while revenues have grown by only 39%. Experts believe that even now Russian fishermen need to look for sales markets other than China, so as not to end up in a situation of “dictatorship of the buyer”, which will put suppliers in a disadvantageous position.

The report also indicated that the supply of fish products to Korea decreased in proportion to the supply of fish to China. This is due to the fact that during the pandemic restrictions, fish supplies to China were made through Korea, but now there is no need for this and suppliers are returning to their previous supply chains.
