SALMON SCOTLAND WELCOMES ORDER FOR TWO NEW HYBRID AQUACULTURE SERVICE VESSELS

SALMON SCOTLAND WELCOMES

Salmon Scotland welcomes order for two new hybrid aquaculture service vessels. Salmon Scotland, the body which represents the farm-raised salmon industry, has welcomed the announcement from Inverlussa Marine Services of an order for two new hybrid aquaculture service vessels.

The first vessel will be named ‘Eloise Eslea and will be delivered late September, with the second vessel being delivered in late December.

Since March 2020, the Mull-based company has taken delivery of six new vessels designed and built specifically for Scottish aquaculture.

Tavish Scott, Chief Executive of Salmon Scotland, said:

“This is a very welcome addition of two new vessels which are at the forefront of modern technology.

“Innovations such as hybrid aquaculture service vessels are a key part of the sector’s commitment to sustainability and responsible growth.

“Salmon farming already has the lowest carbon footprint of any comparable livestock, but farmers are constantly looking for even greener solutions like this.”

Fresh salmon accounts for more than £500 million worth of fish sales across the UK retail market annually. This represents 48 per cent of the overall fish market, making it the most valuable single product in this category. The product is also exported to more than 50 countries.

The salmon sector adds more than £640 million to the economy every year. At the same time, it spends £370 million, supporting over 3,600 suppliers across Scotland. More than 2,500 people are directly employed in salmon farming throughout the country.

The Scottish Salmon Producers’ Organisation (SSPO) changed its name to Salmon Scotland on November 1, 2021
