TWO NAFC STUDENTS ON SHORT-LIST FOR LANTRA SCOTLAND AWARDS

Two NAFC students on short-list for Lantra Scotland awards. Two NAFC students are among the country’s top trainees named as finalists in Lantra Scotland’s 2020 Awards for Land-based and Aquaculture Skills.

Lantra Scotland is the sector skills council for land-based, aquaculture and environmental conservation industries, and the awards play a vital role in promoting careers within the rural sector, celebrating the achievements of learners and highlighting the importance to employers of investing in skills.

The two NAFC students named as finalists are:

Valentina Romano from Brechin has been shortlisted as Higher Learner of the Year. Valentina works at the Kinnaird Mill Trout Farm near Brechin, part of Dawnfresh Seafoods, and has been doing a Technical Apprenticeship in Aquaculture Management (Level 4).

Jimmy Dakin from Sanday in Orkney has been shortlisted as Aquaculture Learner of the Year. Jimmy works for Scottish Sea Farms in Orkney and has been doing a Modern Apprenticeship in Aquaculture (Level 3).

Stuart Fitzsimmons, NAFC’s section leader for aquaculture training, congratulated the shortlisted students, saying that “their nominations for these prestigious national awards are well-deserved and reflect the hard work and commitment that they have displayed throughout their training”

The NAFC Marine Centre’s aquaculture apprenticeships provide practical, ‘on-the-job’ training and skills development for aquaculture staff at all levels from new entrants to managers. More than 100 students across Scotland and England are currently enrolled on Aquaculture Apprenticeships with NAFC.

The apprentices and trainees who have made the shortlist will find out if they have won at a gala dinner and award ceremony on Thursday 5th March at the Doubletree by Hilton Dunblane Hydro.
