NEIFCA appoints new Chairperson

The North East Inshore Fishery & Conservation Authority (NEIFCA) has appointed Professor Mike Elliott as the new Chairperson to the Authority.

Mike has been an active general member of NEIFCA since February 2018 and has experience as Chairman of the Authority’s Science Advisory Group (SAG) and also a member of NEIFCA’s Executive Committee since 2018.

Outside of Mike’s membership of NEIFCA, he is the Director of International Estuarine & Coastal Specialists (IECS) Ltd and also the Emeritus Professor of Estuarine and Coastal Sciences at the University of Hull, UK. He was also the Director of the former Institute of Estuarine & Coastal Studies (IECS) at the university from 1996-2017.

Mike is a marine biologist with wide experience and interests including teaching, research, advisory and consultancy including estuarine and marine ecology, policy, governance and management.

Mike commented – “I am an enthusiastic advocate of the role of IFCAs and I have the background knowledge, passion and understanding of the role, duties and functionality of NEIFCA to make a positive impact on the Authority, going forward, as its new Chair.”
