TRIDENT AQUA SERVICES CELEBRATES DELIVERY

Trident Aqua Services celebrates delivery and naming of FSV Scotia. Trident Aqua Services is proud to announce the official naming ceremony of FSV Scotia, a state-of-the-art harvest vessel delivered from Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted earlier this year.

Delivered in May 2025, FSV Scotia went straight into service for Mowi Scotland. The vessel has completed a successful introduction phase, thanks to a close partnership with Mowi and the outstanding efforts of its crew. Feedback on both efficiency and fish quality has been very positive.

“Mowi is delighted to welcome the FSV Scotia to Mallaig, the hub of our harvesting operation in Scotland and is confident that this technologically advanced vessel and the operational experience of Trident Aqua Services will help to facilitate Mowi’s plans for sustainable growth in Scotland. This new vessel, along with our existing infrastructure in Mallaig and Fort William give us the capacity to realise those growth plans in the decades to come,” says Scott Nolan, Sales and Processing Director at Mowi Scotland.

The official naming ceremony was celebrated in Mallaig on 10th September, where industry representatives, local stakeholders and community members came together to honour FSV Scotia and its vital role in Scotland’s salmon sector, while also marking the strong partnership between Mowi and Trident Aqua Services.

FSV Scotia is based on the Aurora 500 SD design from Sirius Design & Integration. Measuring 50 metres in length and 12 metres in beam, the vessel has a RSW capacity of 500m³. It is equipped with a modern onboard processing plant supplied by Baader, tailored for gentle and efficient harvesting.

FSV Scotia has been designed and built with a clear focus on fish welfare, biosecurity and maintaining fish quality throughout the harvesting process. Seeing it already deliver strong results for our customer underlines the importance of close collaboration and skilled crews,” says Arild Aasmyr, CEO of Trident Aqua Services.

“This also reflects our vision of safeguarding sustainable seafood production, ensuring that every step in the value chain is carried out with responsibility and care.”

The vessel is powered by two main propulsion units and features Brunvoll FU-series tunnel thrusters, ensuring excellent manoeuvrability in harsh environment. The main propellers are driven by electric motors via a reduction gearbox, optimised through variable RPM for efficiency across the power range.

The hull was constructed by Finomar in Poland before being outfitted at Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted in Norway. FSV Scotia is the fourth newbuild delivered from Fitjar to Trident Aqua Services, following Aqua MistMulti Arctic, and FSV Superior, in addition to the major rebuild of Multi Safety.

A proud moment

“The arrival of FSV Scotia is a strong signal of continued investment in Scotland’s thriving salmon sector. Vessels like this not only strengthen operational capacity but also highlight the important connection between our work and the communities that support it,” says Tavish Scott, Chief Executive of Salmon Scotland.

“This is a proud moment for Mallaig and for everyone contributing to the sustainable growth of salmon farming in Scotland. It also supports vital jobs and skills along the West Coast and showcases the collaboration between Scottish teams and international expertise that will strengthen our capabilities for years to come.”
