CHINESE GOVERNMENT LIFTS SUSPENSION

Chinese government lifts suspension of exporter Santa Priscila after confirming compliance with high biosafety standards.  After the inspections carried out by General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) in recent days, China has informed Ecuador’s Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries about the lifting of the suspension of exports by Industrial Pesquera Santa Priscila to China.

This is a result of GACC’s confirmation that the company meets all the quality standards required by the Chinese government.

The news was issued yesterday through a statement that indicates that the company in question has completely applied the ‘COVID-19 and food safety: guidance for food businesses’ published by the FAO and the WHO.

José Antonio Camposano, Executive President of the National Chamber of Aquaculture, indicated that the industry welcomes the news since it verified that high biosafety standards are met, which once again confirms that Ecuadorian shrimp is a healthy and safe product for all consumers:

“The authority (GACC) verified that Industrial Pesquera Santa Priscila complies with all biosecurity protocols and therefore today it can resume its exports to China.”

The GACC virtual inspections allowed China to validate that Santa Priscila met the rigorous compliance with the biosafety and safety protocols, thus ratifying the excellence of the Ecuadorian shrimp sector and the global quality of this product, as stated by the Ecuadorian Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries, Iván Ontaneda.

Industrial Pesquera Santa Priscila has been producing and exporting shrimp since 1976 and for more than 40 years it has met the highest standards of quality and safety in its products and respecting current national and international regulations such as: CODEX ALIMENTARIUS, INEN regulations, DG SANTÉ regulations (European Union) and FDA (United States).  Also. Currently, it leads the ranking of exporters in the country, according to the August report of the America Economy Magazine of Ecuador.

China accounts for 60% of Ecuadorian shrimp exports, making her the main export destination for Ecuador’s first non-oil product. Ecuador will continue to work closely with the Chinese government and GACC to ensure the Chinese consumers will get the best quality shrimp, a goal shared between Ecuador and China as well as our shrimp producing industry.

The Chinese demand for shrimp will continue to grow and Ecuador is both committed and proud to be in partnership with China to meet her consumer needs.
