ECUADOR AND CHINA AGREE NEW SHRIMP

Ecuador and China agree new shrimp promotion campaign. The Embassy of Ecuador in China together with the National Chamber of Aquaculture of Ecuador (CNA) have announced the launch of the ‘Ecuador Shrimp’ Promotion Campaign. Ecuador’s flagship product will arrive in China with a new brand image, showing its advantages to Chinese distributors and consumers, not only for its exquisite flavour and rich nutritional value, but also for its responsible and strict production process, which guarantees the high quality and safety of shrimp.

Ecuadorian shrimp is recognised worldwide for its premium characteristics, but most importantly because our shrimp producers and exporters are committed to excellence, they highly value the quality and safety of the products. There are strict checks carried out at every step of the production process to ensure this. We want to show our Chinese consumers that they can be sure that Ecuadorian shrimp is farmed in the best way,” said Carlos Larrea, Ambassador of Ecuador to China.

The Ecuadorian shrimp production system guarantees the natural conditions that this endemic species needs to develop superior quality, but also the dedication of producers and exporters who, for more than half a century, have dedicated themselves to this sector that today generates almost 200,000 jobs in Ecuador. From larval production to cultivation management, harvesting, processing and transportation, Ecuadorian entrepreneurs strive for excellence at every link in the value chain.

“The experience gained and the commitment of our industry, which for more than 50 years has worked on the continuous improvement and efficiency of shrimp farming and processing techniques, is what has allowed it to grow sustainably and reach the largest markets. demanding in the world”, shared José Antonio Camposano, Executive President of the National Chamber of Aquaculture of Ecuador. “With the launch of this campaign we want to reaffirm to our customers in China that when they buy a shrimp from Ecuador, they can trust that they are getting a product of superior quality and the most sustainable on the market.”

In the first phase of the campaign, advertising will be carried out on multiple platforms and media, and will present the advantages of Ecuadorian shrimp to Chinese consumers, professionals in the catering industry and the media. In addition, there will be a cooperation with renowned chefs who will represent the main cooking styles in China using Ecuadorian Shrimp as the main product. Ecuador is the main exporter of shrimp to China. In 2021, Ecuador became the first shrimp producer in the world to produce more than 1 million tons in a single year. From January to December 2021, Ecuadorian shrimp exports to China increased by 22%, totalling USD 2.3 billion, so China continues as the largest importer of this product.
