EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT’S DELEGATION TO ASSESS IMPACT OF BREXIT ON IRISH FISHERS

EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT’S DELEGATION

European Parliament’s delegation to assess impact of Brexit on Irish fishers. The impact of Brexit and the disruption caused both to quota access and supply chains will be the focus of a delegation to Ireland, from 15 to 17 May.

Members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Fisheries will take stock of the challenges posed by Brexit, which has changed the amount of available exports from Ireland towards the European Union.

This fact-finding mission will start in Waterford, where MEPs will have the opportunity to meet with local authorities with whom they will evaluate the changes caused by Brexit to quota access and supply chains. MEPs will also meet with representatives from the fishing and aquaculture industry, as well as with representatives from island communities and environmental non-governmental organisations.

In Dunmore East, MEPs will meet with port authorities and fishers’ representatives, before heading to Kilmore Quay, where they will visit the Stella Maris Centre and meet with sea anglers and local fishers.

On the third and last day of the delegation visit, MEPs will focus on the connection between southeast Irish fishers and the rest of the EU. With that in mind, they will visit Rosslare Europort, the Irish port with the largest amount of direct roll-on roll-off services to mainland Europe, to discuss the impact of Brexit on trade.
