Good Fishing Off Iceland – Icelandic integrated fishing company, HB Grandi, reports that its fresher trawler Akurey docked in Reykjavík earlier this week with a full fishroom, 190 tonnes, after a short trip.

Magnús Kristjánsson, who was skipper for this trip, said that there had been heavy fishing the whole time.

‘We started on the Mountains (a fishing ground), searching for golden redfish. There was very good fishing for redfish, but hardly any saithe to be seen,’ he said, adding that from the Mountains, Akurey went north to the Westfjord’s fishing grounds.

“We steamed over the Víkuráll Gully while there was heavy fishing for saithe there. We had been given instructions to catch cod, so we planned to start on the bank off Patreksfjörður and follow it up to the Hali grounds. To cut a long story short, Patreksfjörður was as far north as we went,” he said.

“There was very good fishing off Iceland on some fine quality cod the whole time, with a 4kg average weight. It took less than 30 hours to pick up the cod we needed to fill up,” Magnús Kristjánsson said.
