ICELANDIC DEMERSAL CATCH INCREASES

Icelandic demersal catch increases. Icelandic vessels landed just over 87 thousand tonnes in May, 14% less than in May 2023. Demersal catch was 19% more than in May last year and pelagic catch 37% less.
For demersal fish, cod, haddock, saithe, redfish and flatfish catches were all up.
In the 12 month period from June 2023 to May 2024 the catch was just over 1.08 million tonnes which is a 25% decrease from the previous 12 month period. This is due to no capelin catch.
Information about catch of fish are preliminary figures and the data is gathered by the Directorate of Fisheries.
