Dundee-based aquaculture technology supplier Ace Aquatec attended Seafood Expo Global in Brussels, Belgium earlier in May. At the event, they showcased their in-water electric stunner and introduced their Electric Fish to the global market.
Ace Aquatec’s Managing Director Nathan Pyne-Carter, Head of Sales and Marketing Mike Forbes and Business Development Manager Andrew Thomson-Chittenden attended the event in Brussels, which is regarded as the largest seafood trade event where industry professionals, buyers and suppliers from over 140 countries meet.
The Scottish firm’s Humane Stunner Universal (HSU), which recently won Ace Aquatec’s second Queen’s Award for Enterprise Innovation, received a great deal of interest. The HSU is an in-water electric stunner that renders the fish unconscious without removing them from the water. This technology reduces the fish stress, improves fish quality and can double the volume of fish processed per hour.
Alongside the HSU, Ace Aquatec also showcased their Electric Fish in Brussels, which was shortlisted for the Animal Welfare Award. The Electric Fish is a non-acoustic deterrent that is designed to look like a dead salmon and serves as a predator solution for areas that have regulations in place against acoustic deterrents.
Forbes said, “We’re delighted by the interest in our HSU electric stunner and Electric Fish deterrent – we received twice the amount of leads compared to the same event last year. These leads came from all over the world but there was a significant interest from seabass and sea bream farmer in Greece and other Mediterranean countries.”
Ace Aquatec will also be at Aqua Nor in Trondheim, Norway from 20-23 August at stand D-329.
