A popular pop-up seafood café in Cornwall has made the difficult decision to cease trading this year citing rising costs. The Bait Shed which has wowed food fans on the harbourside in Portreath has announced it won’t be back either this Easter or during the summer months.
Customers have replied with sadness at the decision by the business which serves freshly caught fish and seafood from a pop-up kitchen and café trailer. The Bait Shed – renowned for its monkfish tacos and crab burgers – was set up in 2021 by Marc Saunders and Mark Perry.
They posted on social media:
“Sadly we won’t be opening for Easter or the summer this year. We have always aimed to offer the highest quality menus using local Cornish produce which made us proud to serve. However risings costs and not being able to expand as quickly as we have wanted have forced us to put a hold on our vision.
“Let’s see what next year brings and we may make some appearances in the trailer for some events. Special thanks to everyone who came and saw us this last two years, we really do appreciate it and we hope you’ve enjoyed it. Thanks also to our awesome Bait Shed team, suppliers and to the Portreath Harbour Association (PHA). See you soon.”
“Sorry to hear this, you will be missed. But fully understand…”, “That’s really sad news, always look forward to visiting you and tasting your amazing fish dishes. Hopefully it’s just temporary and you will be back next year”, “This is sad news, we loved your food, it was amazing. Really hope to see you pop up somewhere. Take care and hold onto your vision. You will get there”.
“Thanks for the amazing food over the last couple of summers. You will be missed” and “Gutted, such a difficult decision”.
