Scottish seafood showcase in Miami. This week, Seafood Scotland and Scottish Development International (SDI) hosted an exclusive eight-course tasting dinner by Scotland’s national chef, Gary Maclean, in Miami, Florida for the first time.

With an influential guest list of around 50 foodservice distributors and buyers, chefs and restaurateurs the dinner showcased Scotland’s premium seafood offering, including Scottish salmon, smoked haddock, lobster, langoustine, halibut and crab. Gary also worked alongside US producer, Taste of Redland, to create a fusion of local produce from Florida and traditional Scottish ingredients for the menu.

The showcasing dinner offered an opportunity to US buyers to experience ‘A Taste of Scotland’ in their own country and continued momentum in an established and important export market. Working closely with the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association (FRLA), the dinner was held at The Rusty Pelican Miami Restaurant and also included an impressive seafood showcase featuring a variety of species that allowed guests to see first-hand the quality and freshness of the produce.

Lynne Hernandez, South Florida Regional Director at the FRLA, said:

“Seafood Scotland, SDI and Gary worked tirelessly to present the very best of Scotland to our industry leaders from across the state. They were all extremely impressed and astounded with the quality, tastes and presentation of each of the magnificent courses chef Gary so expertly prepared. We recognise and deeply appreciate the enormous efforts of those involved in bringing the vast array of fresh seafood and ingredients from Scotland. It was a fabulous night which has helped to strengthen our continued partnership with Scotland.”
