SFF URGES MPS TO RECOGNISE BREXIT BENEFITS

SFF urges MPs to recognise Brexit benefits – Scottish fishermen’s leaders have made a “heartfelt” appeal to MPs of all parties to recognise the huge benefits to the industry from exiting the Common Fisheries Policy as they decide how to move Brexit forward.

In a letter to all 650 MPs, Scottish Fishermen’s Federation Bertie Armstrong highlighted that opinion polling carried out for the organisation showed there was support for the UK becoming an independent coastal state across party divides.

“All of us in the fishing industry, on land and at sea, need certainty,” he said. “Leaving the Common Fisheries Policy will enable us to elevate the UK onto the world stage as a sustainable seafood harvesting and marketing nation.”

He added that coastal state status would allow the UK to introduce more coherent environmental management, enhance food production and create more jobs.
