SFPA Explains New Fisheries Control Regulation

Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority commences a series of nationwide information sessions for industry including roll out of new fisheries Electronic Recording System (ERS) hardware and updates on the revised Fisheries Control Regulation for vessels over 12m

In January, the Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority commenced a series of nationwide information sessions for industry starting in Co. Wexford and running until early March.

Topics to be covered during these information sessions will be:

  1. Roll out of new Electronic Recording System (ERS) hardware to run the electronic logbook software ieCatch for vessels over 12m – this session is run by our ICT Team
  2. Revised Fisheries Control Regulation for vessels over 12m – this session is run by our Food and Fisheries Support Unit and includes updates on:
    • What is legally required as of January 2026
    • What Masters’ must prepare for in advance of 2027

The key focus areas include Marking & Identification, EU Logbook  Requirements, Prior Notification of Arrival (PNO) and Vessel Monitoring Systems (VMS).

We will be running these sessions in multiple locations to support accessibility for industry members based around the country – Wexford, Waterford, Glengarriff, Dingle, Dublin, Galway, Killybegs and Greencastle.
