SEAFISH UNVEILS SPEAKERS FOR FIRST SCOTTISH SEAFOOD SUMMIT
Seafish unveils speakers for first Scottish Seafood Summit. The Scottish Seafood Summit has attracted an impressive line-up of speakers from trade, industry and science for its inaugural event in Aberdeen.
Organised by Seafish, the public body that supports the £10bn UK seafood industry, the event will focus on the challenges arising from the UK’s exit from the EU and offer stakeholders the knowledge to respond to the changing landscape.
Themes explored throughout the conference, which is held two days before the UK leaves the EU, will include:
- Setting the scene: EU exit status update and macro implications
- Our changing trading relationship with the EU and beyond
- Access to our fisheries resources post EU exit – implications for UK supply; and
- Labour constraints: EU exit and our changing immigration status – what are the options for Scottish seafood business?
Speakers include Professor Richard Barnes from the University of Hull, who will explore marine resources, while Allan Gibb from Marine Scotland will give an overview of the regulatory and management changes as Scotland leaves the CFP.
Other speakers include Darren Stevenson from McGill & Partners Immigration Lawyers, who will be focusing on the immigration constraints and what it means for seafood businesses and Colin Faulkner from Defra who will talk about the new dynamic in trade agreements post EU exit. Seafish Chief Executive, Marcus Coleman, said: “In the week that the UK is set to leave the EU, the Scottish Seafood Summit will be a platform for debate and discussion on what is the biggest thing to hit the seafood industry in decades.

The two-day summit, which is free to attend, opens on Tuesday 26 March at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel, Aberdeen, with an afternoon networking event, followed by the Seafood Fayre showcasing seafood from around the UK and local produce. The conference takes place the following day on Wednesday 27 March.
