WORLD WATER DAY – PROTECTING OUR WATER SOURCES

WORLD WATER DAY

World Water Day – Protecting our water sources. Cognizant Ocean is a business group that forms part of global consultancy Cognizant. It focuses on helping its clients in the Blue Economy apply digital technologies, such as AI and data analytics, to improve their business outcomes, reduce their carbon output and decarbonise the oceans.

Stig Martin Fiska, Global Head of Cognizant Ocean, comments on  the importance of protecting our water sources worldwide, and how AI technology can help us achieve this goal, head of World Water Day this Friday:

“Water is essential to survival. But for one in 10 globally – that’s over 703 million people – access to clean water isn’t a given. A variety of factors compound this shortage, whether its water pollution, climate change or the struggle to keep up with demand on the water supply as populations continue to grow. At the same time, businesses that rely on a healthy ocean for their livelihood are facing unprecedented challenges due to these same challenges.

World Water Day on 22nd March is therefore a crucial day for recognising how we can work towards mitigating and preventing damage to our water sources, provide sufficient and safe water supplies for people worldwide, and keep water-reliant businesses not only afloat but resilient.

“There is no doubt this is a difficult job; solving water sustainability challenges is complex, and the ocean industry must collaborate if they want to make progress. A central pillar to this effort is digitisation, which will help us keep our water sources clean from pollution and protect against accidents. For example, artificial intelligence (AI) powered predictions and real-time monitoring can help us track and measure the health of our water sources and identify issues before they emerge.

Using the power of data and AI will be key to ensuring the water industry and other stakeholders can meet the responsibility of keeping our water sources healthy.”
