BRIM FLEET CATCHES 147000 TONNES IN 2021

BRIM FLEET CATCHES 147000 TONNES

Brim fleet catches 147000 tonnes in 2021. The Icelandic company Brim’s fleet landed a total of 147000 tonnes in 2021, which is 19,000 tonnes more than the 2020 total.

The catch of pelagic vessels was about 96 thousand tons and increased by 14 thousand tons between years. This increase is largely due to the fact that in 2021 a capelin quota was issued after no capelin fishing had taken place two years before, but on the other hand, catches of blue whiting and mackerel decreased. In August 2021, the company acquired the third pelagic vessel, Svanur RE.

The catch of freezer trawlers was about 25 thousand tonnes, which is about 2 thousand tonnes less than in 2020. Höfrungur III AK was sold in September 2021 to meet the contraction in the allocation of demersal fish quotas for cod and redfish.

The catch of icefish vessels was about 26 thousand tons, which is about 6 thousand tons more than in 2020. This increase in catch is explained by more endurance and better fishing, but in 2020 the company’s fish factory at Norðurgarður was closed for about three months due to renewal of processing equipment and repairs.

The total catch value of the company’s vessels was ISK 19,965 million in the year 2021 and increased by ISK 1,916 million between years.
