ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR NORWEGIAN FISH PROCESSOR

ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Energy management system for Norwegian fish processor. Norwegian fish processing equipment manufacturer MMC FIRST PROCESS has signed an agreement with salmon processor Slakteriet AS to deliver an energy management system to their facilities in Brekke and Florø.

With this delivery, MMC First Process will be responsible for delivering equipment and technology for upgrading all refrigeration and freezing machinery with an environmental and future-oriented profile. The delivery includes, among other things, freezing tunnels, freezers and cold stores as well as modernisation by changing the refrigerant to CO2, which is a natural refrigerant with a focus on operational reliability.

CO2 as a refrigerant is very appropriate in terms of heat recovery. Through the future-oriented system from MMC FIRST PROCESS, all heat is captured and reused to heat tap water, defrost, heat buildings, etc. MMC FIRST PROCESS will deliver a large-scale system with both freezing and cooling to ensure the food production at the facilities of Slakteriet AS in the best possible way.

With a cooling capacity of 580 kW and a low temperature (LT) of –40 °C and a cooling unit with a capacity of 100 kW and a medium temperature of –7 °C, it generates a heat recovery in the building of over 600 kW that is extracted in the same system. This optimises energy consumption and provides major savings in terms of energy consumption.

Kristin Bergstøl Hansen, CEO of Slakteriet AS, states that they are very pleased with the agreement with MMC FIRST PROCESS on cooling and freezing machinery with CO2 as a refrigerant:

“We have chosen to switch to this concept in both Brekke and Florø to ensure our high freezing capacity. We look forward to continued good cooperation with such a solution-oriented and competent partner,” says Bergstøl Hansen.

Daniel Johansson, Sales Manager for Energy Systems at MMC FIRST PROCESS, says that this is an important and future-oriented contract for the company’s strategy of delivering complete energy systems.

“Refrigeration and cold storage technology is a critical component in the seafood industry’s continued success in getting sustainable, healthy seafood to consumers. The delivery emphasizes our position and focus on sustainable solutions, and we expect further positive developments in the market. We now look forward to continued good cooperation going forward, and look forward to completing the Slakteriet’s locations in Florø and Brekke with a solid upgrade in the spring of 2025,” says Johansson.
