INDO FISHERIES DRIVING THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE SHRIMP INDUSTRY

INDO FISHERIES DRIVING THE TRANSFORMATION

Indo Fisheries driving the transformation of the shrimp industry toward sustainable and globally competitive aquaculture. Indo Fisheries Expo & Forum, organised by PT Napindo Media Ashatama (Napindo), continues to strengthen its role as a strategic platform for the development of Indonesia’s fisheries and aquaculture industry, particularly the shrimp sector. One of these efforts is reflected in the visit of the Indo Fisheries team to Yogyakarta on 11–12 February 2026.

In terms of performance, Indonesia’s fisheries sector has shown a positive trend. As of the third quarter of 2025, total national fisheries production reached 18.64 million tons, with a significant contribution from the aquaculture subsector. Shrimp remains Indonesia’s leading fisheries export commodity, supporting export values of USD 5.07 billion as of October 2025, with a trade surplus of USD 4.53 billion. This achievement underscores the strategic role of shrimp within Indonesia’s fisheries economy and its competitiveness in the global market.

Alongside these positive achievements, Indonesia’s shrimp industry continues to adapt to evolving global market standards, particularly in strengthening quality assurance and product traceability.

This adjustment has become increasingly relevant as several export destinations have implemented additional requirements related to product safety inspections. In response to issues that temporarily affected exports in 2025, the government promptly took steps to safeguard export continuity and restore market confidence. The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), through the KKP Quality Assurance Agency, in collaboration with the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN), has strengthened cooperation in implementing certification for shrimp products free from Cesium-137 (Cs-137). Head of the KKP Quality Assurance Agency, Ishartini, stated that this initiative aims to ensure Indonesian shrimp products meet the requirements of export destination countries. “This cooperation is part of the government’s eforts to guarantee the quality and safety of fisheries products, thereby enhancing international market confidence in Indonesian shrimp,” she said.

The collaboration includes integrated laboratory testing and the utilisation of testing facilities across various regions in Indonesia as part of the national fisheries product quality monitoring system.

These developments indicate that the dynamics of the shrimp industry are part of a broader structural adaptation toward a stronger and reliable production and export system. In this context,
Indo Fisheries serves as a strategic platform that brings together industry stakeholders to discuss quality enhancement, food safety standards, and the development of sustainable aquaculture
practices.

Through its participation in Shrimp Outlook 2026, Indo Fisheries contributes to gaining insights into the latest developments in the shrimp sector while expanding networks with business players, associations, and key stakeholders amid ongoing global market changes. This approach aligns with Indonesia’s national aquaculture development direction, which emphasizes modern, efficient, and environmentally responsible farming practices.

As the 16th comprehensive technology exhibition and forum for the fisheries and aquaculture industry, covering farming, feed, seeds, health, cold storage, and food processing: Indo Fisheries 2026 will be held together with Indo Livestock, Indo Feed, Indo Dairy, Indo Agrotech, and Indo Vet 2026 Expo & Forum on 16–18 June 2026 at the Nusantara International Convention Exhibition (NICE) PIK 2, Tangerang, Indonesia.

The upcoming exhibition will also introduce a flagship programme, the Fisheries Buyers Programme, designed to connect Indonesian fisheries exporters with international buyers from regions
including the Americas, Central Asia, China, Japan, Korea, and the European Union through structured business matchmaking. Indo Fisheries 2026 is targeted to attract more than 600
exhibitors from 40 countries, including 12 national pavilions, as well as approximately 20,000 visitors comprising business players, innovators, policymakers, academics, and researchers.
