Moving in the Right Direction: the Results of Seafood Expo Eurasia 2024

The inaugural Seafood Expo Eurasia took place on May 15-17 at Tüyap, Istanbul. This new global event gained significant attention from the international fishery and aquaculture community, as well as strong interest from the host country. Representatives from Türkiye’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Central Union of Aquaculture Producers, who supported the exhibition, emphasised Seafood Expo Eurasia’s role in promoting Turkish products internationally and enhancing Türkiye’s position as a comprehensive seafood hub.

This year, the expo attracted 2,073 attendees from 91 countries spanning Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. Visitors were mainly drawn to aquaculture, followed by finished fish products and their distribution. The fishery, aquaculture, and processing sectors were complemented by logistics and packaging companies, shipyards, equipment and component manufacturers, and other related industries essential to the fishery sector.

Among the notable attendees were COMHAFAT/ATLAFCO delegation led by President Sidi Tiémoko Touré, and a Saudi Arabian delegation led by Ibrahim Alzahrani, Director of Aquaculture of the National Livestock and Fisheries Development Program.

In addition to exhibitor presentations, Seafood Expo Eurasia featured a comprehensive business program addressing the specifics of the promising regional seafood markets along with the key global industry issues. The sessions focused on the development of fish trade in Latin America, Africa, Türkiye, and Eurasia as a whole, as well as best practices in aquaculture, fish oils and fishmeal production, and seafood cold chain logistics.

“Organising an exhibition for the first time is a challenging task, but thanks to the support of our partners, exhibitors, and visitors, we have laid the foundation for future growth. We brought together the most important areas of the fishery and aquaculture industries, ensuring effective interaction between them. This guiding principle will help the fair expand accordingly,” said Anna Shelkova, Seafood Expo Eurasia Show Director.

The dates for Seafood Expo Eurasia 2025 will be announced soon.
