RACE TO THE TOP

RACE TO THE TOP

Race to the Top: The best leaders are running to the top. And you? Where are you headed?  On Tuesday, October 22, during AquaExpo Guayaquil, the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) and the National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA) will present the first edition of the new sustainability forum, Race to the Top. At this event, held at the Guayaquil Convention Centre, global leaders and key executives from Ecuador will discuss how the country’s shrimp industry has established itself as a global model of sustainability. They will also explore how these actions can continue to drive aquaculture performance and help transform other industries.

Throughout four sections focused on governance, environmental, social, and economic topics, Race to the Top will feature 15 talks in the form of lectures, panels, and success stories from Ecuador’s shrimp industry, with more than 35 internationally and nationally renowned speakers.

Pamela Nath, SSP Director, explains that one of the key goals of this initiative is to transform the shrimp industry towards more responsible, sustainable, and transparent practices:

“At SSP, we aim to raise industry standards and lead by example, inspiring others to join our efforts. Ecuadorian producers have already proven that it is possible to produce shrimp of the highest quality in a way that is safe for both people and the environment. This journey, which we call Race to the Top, has been shaped by commitment, discipline, and strategy, and this is the message we want to convey to stakeholders in our industry and to those from other sectors who will join us during this forum,” she shares.

Among the speakers are representatives from the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), BASF, BioMar, Biolan, Conservation International (CI), Cofimar, Corporación Lanec, Earthworm Foundation, Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI), GPS Group, Grupo Almar, Houdek, dsm-firmenich, MSD Animal Health, Nicovita, Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), Omarsa, Skretting, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), The Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH), Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and others.

“Ecuador has established itself as a leader in the global shrimp industry thanks to its commitment to innovation and sustainability. Race to the Top is our opportunity to reinforce this leadership and serve as a model for other industries, both in the country and abroad,” says CNA Executive President José Antonio Camposano.
