TASTE OF SHETLAND

Taste of Shetland stage online Iceland-Shetland evening. Food and drink promotion company, Shetland Food and Drink Limited (SFAD), is hosting an evening of Iceland/Shetland-themed public culinary entertainment and online member business networking on Wednesday 26th May.

Iceland’s Chef of the Year 2018, Garðar Kári Garðarsson, will prepare native lamb and char dishes live during a ticketed ‘Iceland on a Plate’ online event which can be viewed worldwide. Garðar Kári will reveal the wild, farmed and foraged food he uses to produce show stopping menus at the luxury Deplar Farm Hotel, and answer audience questions as he cooks.

Shetland Food and Drink members, meanwhile, will have the opportunity to network privately online with their counterparts in Iceland to discuss the challenges and benefits of promoting produce with unique island provenance. Managing Director of Icelandic Lamb, Hafliði Halldórsson, will explain how lamb is marketed in a country where 90% of the meat consumed is local. Tomato farmer Dóróthea Ármann will offer insights into growing vegetables using renewable energy and turning this into a food tourism experience. Shetland delegates on a 2020 Seafood Scotland food tourism learning journey through North Iceland will finally report on their findings for the benefit of SFAD member businesses.

The private member networking element of Taste of Shetland’s Iceland-Shetland evening will take place on Zoom between 6 and 7.30pm on Wednesday 26th May, with the publicly-accessible, ticketed ‘Iceland on a Plate’ chef demonstration following from 8pm. This event is supported by destination marketing organisation Promote Shetland and tickets are available to purchase on the Taste of Shetland website.
