D&S IFCA REQUEST INFORMATION ON FISHING IN MARINE CONSERVATION ZONE

D&S IFCA REQUEST

D&S IFCA request information on fishing in Marine Conservation Zone. Devon & Severn Inshore Fishery and Conservation Authority is undertaking an assessment of fishing activity in the Morte Platform Marine Conservation Zone (MCZ).

For the first stage of this assessment, Officers are gathering information and evidence to better understand fishing locations, levels of activity, and what is important to stakeholders in these areas. D&S IFCA Officers are particularly interested in gathering information on the level and locations of potting and netting.

D&S IFCA are circulating an electronic call for information questionnaire to permit holders in the north of the District which details how you can have your say and provides more information on the subject. The links to the questionnaires can be found on our ‘Engagement & Have Your Say’ website page.

WHAT DO D&S IFCA WANT TO KNOW?

  • Whether any potting, netting or longlining activities are carried out
  • The location and level of effort of any of these activities

WHY IS THIS INFORMATION NEEDED?

D&S IFCA has limited evidence and data in relation to fishing activities within the MCZ and would like to better understand fishing activity within the sites. This request for information will allow D&S IFCA to estimate how much activity is currently taking place over the different features of the MCZ. This will also help to build an understanding of how important the sites are as fishing grounds to those who use them.

  • The consultation ends on 11th July 2022.
