INSPIRING THE NATION AND A WHOLE NEW GENERATION TO EAT SCOTTISH MUSSELS
Inspiring the nation and a whole new generation to eat Scottish Mussels. Eat Scottish Shellfish Campaign was created by the Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group, to help raise awareness of Scottish mussels.
NATIONAL MUSSEL DAY IS ON 10TH NOVEMBER!
Eat Scottish Mussels campaign is on a mission to tell the nation and a whole new generation of foodies, just how great these little miracles are! The campaign led by the Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group is part of a wider programme supported by the Association of Scottish Shellfish Growers. This aims to inform and inspire more people to eat Scottish farmed mussels and other shellfish.
SCOTTISH MUSSELS HAVE SUPERPOWERS!!
Armed with recently commissioned research confirming their sustainability credentials and nutritional properties, the Eat Scottish Mussels campaign wants to let everyone know about this fantastic seafood, carefully grown around the West Coast and Islands of Scotland.
Not only do they provide a sustainable source of protein but they are also packed full of nutrients that many people are commonly deficient in, like vitamin B12 and Iron.
FUTURE FOOD SECURITY!
Mussels have one of the lowest carbon footprints of any farmed protein source. They require no feed and simply grow through filtering microscopic plant life from the clear coastal waters. Their presence in turn helps to support and sustain a healthy marine environment.
As the world’s populations grow, low impact, sustainable farming such as for mussels and other shellfish will help to feed and provide an important source of nutrition for future generations.
EASY TO PREPARE AND COOK.
In a recent survey commissioned by Scottish Shellfish, consumers said that they chose mussels because they are quick to cook, easy to cook, taste great and are fantastic value for money! However, despite our Island Nation and history of producing fantastic seafood there is a lack of confidence by modern consumers to prepare and cook it at home. So the campaign has a focus on breaking down these myths and giving consumer confidence back.
Kelly Wright, Ambassador for Scottish Farmed Shellfish said:
“We have a wonderful food source growing right here but many people are just not aware how accessible it is. In a time when household budgets are stretched a plate of mussels provide a very low cost tasty meal option.”
Tasty, affordable, healthy and sustainable. What’s not to like?
