NINE NEW BUILD PILOT BOATS IN THE UK TO BE POWERED BY MAN
Nine new build pilot boats in the UK to be powered by MAN. MAN to power all nine new build pilot boats ordered by port operator ABP Ports and to be built by Norfolk based Goodchild Marine Services.
PME Group, the UK and Ireland importer for MAN high speed engines worked closely with Goodchild Marine to ensure the best possible options were available across the range of specially commissioned ORC-136 and ORC-171 pilot boats.
Nine boats will be built over the next five years with the first one already in build and set to deliver in 2021.
Martin Jackson, Sales Manager at PME Group said:
“Part of the tender requirement was for a standard model of engine for both boat sizes and future proofed for Tier 3 legislation, reliability, good aftermarket support along with a comprehensive whole life service and repair analysis. We proposed the D2676 as the most viable option, demonstrating that the whole life costings showed significant savings against the competition and with the benefit that the PME network of service dealers are all strategically placed to support the boats once in operation.”
“Deciding which engine manufacturer to use for a range of pilot boats is always a balance of cost, uniformity of design, efficiency, aftersales support and environmental impact. PME have offered on all fronts, including an SCR upgrade option. Goodchild Marine Services are therefore pleased to be working with PME on an exciting marine industry project to deliver nine pilot boats for Associated British Ports.” (Stephen Pierce General Manager Goodchild Marine Services Limited)
