PETERHEAD PORT AUTHORITY BOARD APPROVES INTRODUCTION OF E-AUCTION

PETERHEAD PORT AUTHORITY BOARD APPROVES

Peterhead Port Authority Board approves introduction of E-auction. The Board of Peterhead Port Authority (PPA) has officially approved the implementation of an Electronic Auction (E-auction) for its fish market, marking a significant step forward in modernising operations at Europe’s leading fish port.

Widespread Support for E-Auction
Earlier this year, Peterhead Port Authority (PPA) initiated a comprehensive consultation process with stakeholders to assess the potential benefits and challenges of introducing an E-auction system. The feedback revealed overwhelming support for the proposal, with stakeholders recognising its potential to streamline operations, enhance transparency and improve efficiency in the market.
However, the consultation also brought to light several challenges, including logistical and technical concerns. Peterhead Port Authority has since worked diligently to address these issues in collaboration with industry representatives and other stakeholders.
Commitment to Future-Proofing Peterhead Port
Graeme Reid, Chief Executive of Peterhead Port Authority, hailed the decision as a transformative moment for both the port and the local community:
“This is an exciting moment for the Port and the Peterhead community,” Reid said. “Peterhead Port Authority has invested around £70 million in port facilities over the past decade, reinforcing its position as Europe’s premier fish port. This next investment in an E-auction system will further future-proof our operations and enhance our competitive edge.”
Reid emphasised that Peterhead Port Authority team has been actively engaging with stakeholder representatives to collaboratively address the challenges identified during the consultation process:
“The Board of Peterhead Port Authority is now confident that effective solutions have been found to overcome these challenges,” he added.
Next Steps: Design and Implementation
With the green light from the Board,  PPA will now move into the detailed design phase of the E-auction system. This phase will involve further collaboration with stakeholders to ensure the system meets the needs of buyers, sellers, and other market participants.
The Authority aims to have the E-auction system operational by early spring 2026, providing a modern platform to enhance efficiency, improve market access, and solidify Peterhead Port’s reputation as a leader in the global seafood industry.
This strategic move underscores the PPA’s commitment to innovation and its proactive approach to adapting to the evolving needs of the fishing industry.
