The fifth Scottish Inshore Fisheries Conference will be held at Eden Court, Inverness on Friday 5th October 2018.

Leaving the EU presents the Scottish Government with an opportunity to develop a new model of fisheries management for Scottish waters. This is a long-term commitment, and one which will rely on the involvement and collaboration of all stakeholders. The Scottish Inshore Fisheries Conference is the ideal venue to discuss this issue within the context of the inshore fishing sector.

Fergus Ewing MSP, Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy, will be in attendance to open the conference and give the keynote speech. This will be followed in the afternoon by a plenary that will discuss the Scottish Government’s plans for taking forward work on the future of fisheries management in Scotland.

Delegates will have a selection of interesting workshops to participate in throughout the day, with some being led by fishing industry associations for the first time. There will be sessions on:

  • What Coastal Fishing Communities Can Bring to Science, Sustainability and Governance (Community Inshore Fisheries Alliance)
  • The potential of low impact fishing for Scotland (Low Impact Fishers of Europe  / Scottish Creel Fishermen’s Federation)
  • Implementing the Scottish Inshore Fisheries Integrated Data System (MASTS)
  • Improving Inshore Fisheries Data (Marine Scotland)

There will also be plenty of networking opportunities, with exhibitor stalls and representatives from a range of organisations attending. The conference will be an ideal opportunity to meet people who share an interest in inshore fishing in an informal setting, and we encourage active fishermen to attend and have their say on how Scotland’s inshore fisheries are managed.

Free registration for the conference is open at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/scottish-inshore-fisheries-conference-2018-tickets-48407389806.
